My Life Tree

Author: Claus Møller

Synopsis : A different book about personal development. "My Life Tree" is about what the individual - as a staff member or a manager - can do to achieve continuous, positive development and growth.
The book provides inspiration and practical help to develop a positive attitude, create good relationships, define and achieve personal goals and to live in the present.

We are constantly facing major and minor problems. Both privately and at work. They are of two kinds: "factual" and "emotional". Factual problems which belong to the "world of facts" can usually be dealt with rationally, through experience and professional insight. Problems which have their roots in "the world of emotions" cause frustration, are less transparent and take longer to solve. They hurt. On the whole they cause greater worries than "factual" problems; and it is primarily the unsolved problems of the "world of emotions" which stand in the way of personal and organisational growth and development.

It is perhaps not so surprising that the "emotional" problems are the most difficult to solve. Very few of us are formally educated to understand the human mind, the routes of thoughts and emotions. We know too little about how to inspire, motivate and communicate for mutual understanding, mutual visions and creativity. How, in our different relationships - at home and at work - we should handle the conflicts that inevitably arise. And in our roles as managers and employees how to get inspired, take pleasure and pride in our work, show tolerance and flexibility. How to develop a feeling of responsibility and team-spirit.

If we are to function better, with others and for ourselves, we must learn the mechanisms of the world of emotions. "Why am I the person that I am?" "Why do I do the things I do?" "How could I function better together with others, and for myself?"

These are the themes of this very different book, dealt with in a way that is down to earth, entertaining and deeply serious at the same time.

The book is a toolbox with suggestions for handling the many situations which arise in the course of a day - or of a lifetime. But it is also a reference book. The reader can always return to study the book, and carry out the many inspiring exercises, on their own or together with others.

Personal development is a prerequisite for getting the best out of life. The opportunity for personal development also determines whether an organisation can attract and retain capable employees, and create an environment where everyone is motivated to do their best.

The introduction "My time is my life" provides inspiration for how to live in the present moment, and make the moments into pearls.

"My Life Tree" uses the tree as a model for the personal development of a human being.

The concrete examples and exercises contained in the book are built around the four parts of the "Life Tree":

A: The roots - your attitudes towards life.
B: The soil - your surroundings.
C: The trunk - your personal goals.
D: The branches - your knowledge and skills.
